Governance
Mid Deeside Community Council (MDCC) represents and promotes the interests of the communities of Aboyne, Kincardine O'Neil, Dinnet and Glen Tanar. Birse & Ballogie also have a community council (B2C2). Community councils are the most local tier of statutory representation in Scotland. They are non-party-political and community councillors are volunteers. They bridge the gap between communities and local authorities, and help to make public bodies aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent.

At the next level of governance, our community is represented by three elected councillors

in the Aboyne, Upper Deeside and Donside electoral ward, part of Aberdeenshire's Marr Area administrative district. Here the philosophy is based on Community Planning Partnerships which act as a link between local authorities, other public bodies (i.e.: NHS Grampian, Cairngorm National Park Authority), and the local communities they serve, allowing for a targeted, whole system approach to designing, delivering and improving public services accessed by people.

Although not a statutory body, the Aboyne Community Trust was set up in 1996 as a means for people in the Mid Deeside area to develop projects of local benefit and interest. These projects may be of a social, health, educational, cultural or economic purpose.
